How to reduce plastic waste from day to day life

Our world is dying, and there is no use to sugarcoat this truth anymore. Statistics show that plastic waste is at the core of our environmental problems as we dump nearly 8 million tons of plastic in the oceans annually. This plastic is not only polluting our oceans and seas but killing our marine life as well.

It is high time that we start conserving our environment and reducing plastic consumption is crucial for this cause. Pick up the following habits to help your planet:

1. Use Reusable Shopping Bags

Many countries like China and Italy have banned plastic bags entirely, while some have replaced them with other biodegradable alternatives. People aren’t aware that it takes nearly hundreds of years for plastic to degrade and become one with the environment.

Carry reusable shopping bags with you and avoid using plastic bags handed to you at a grocery shop. You can customize your shopping bags with patterns and pins and do grocery shopping in style!

2. Buy Steel Storage Containers

Packing food and storing leftovers in a plastic container seems reasonable to most because of their hassle-free handling. Why waste your precious time in scrubbing them when you can throw them away after using them only once?

But know that a little inconvenience endured by you can help our ecosystem go back to its prime condition. Use steel containers to pack your food for travel or to store leftovers in the fridge for a clean and plastic-free environment.

3. Carry Reusable Beverage Thermos

Who doesn’t love a steaming mug of coffee and tea in the morning? Starbucks alone uses around 2.946 billion plastic cups in their stores to serve coffee to its customers every day.

These are the official numbers reported by Starbucks, but there are billions of coffee shops around the world who do the same. Imagine the magnitude of scale at which they are producing plastic waste every day.

Considering these facts and numbers, you’ll be doing your future generation favour if you carry a reusable beverage thermos or mug with you everywhere you go. These thermoses are fashionable, easy to carry, and they can keep your beverages in their prime condition for long periods.

4. Reduce Consumption of Packaged Products

Packaged products from corn flakes to detergents are packed in plastic bags or containers. Once you step into a grocery shop, you’ll see plastic everywhere, and you can’t avoid consuming these products without looking like a freak.

That is why you must look for products that are packed in a box. If you can’t avoid plastic packaging, then try to employ alternative means of recycling to reuse these plastic packaging.

5. Avoid Using Plastic Straws & Cutlery

The Americans alone use around 500 million plastic straws every day. A simple calculation will help you guess the situation of the rest of the world in this regard. We suggest using steel, wooden or glass straws instead of plastic ones in your daily life to minimize their consumption.

Furthermore, carry a set of reusable cutlery with you everywhere you go, especially during your travels.  You must reject any plastic cutlery offered to you in flights and in restaurants beforehand to create a positive impact on your environment

There are so many things that we can do to help save the environment; the bottles that we use, the different types of spray bottles, the toys, electronics, food containers, etc. are all wasting the environment away.
